Dennis has 40 years' experience in the broadcast news industry, having started at the tender young age of 17 in the newsroom of KCBQ Radio in San Diego, Calif.

Under the tutelage of veteran San Diego radio newsman Reid Carroll, Dennis cut his teeth doing beat calls, writing copy and covering news conferences. After college in San Diego, he launched the on-air portion of his career at WDIF in Marion, Ohio.

After a couple of years, his new wife (whom he met at the radio station) and their baby son moved back west to Yuma, Ariz., where he started in television at KYEL-TV, anchoring the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.

He stepped off the air in 1983, becoming the executive producer and assignment manager of KERO-TV in Bakersfield, Calif. He joined the ABC-owned-and-operated team at Fresno's KFSN-TV in 1985, transferring in 1993 to KGO-TV in San Francisco as executive producer.

In 1999, he became news director of WCBD-TV in Charleston and two years later was recruited to join the team at WBTV in Charlotte N.C., where he has been for more than a decade.

Dennis and his wife, Janey, have been married for 35 years and have four children, three of whom live nearby in the Carolinas. They also have one grandchild, Emily.
