Rick Gall grew up in Wisconsin and graduated with an Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.   He went on to obtain his Master of Arts Degree from American University in Washington, DC.

He spent the next ten years working as a general assignment news reporter for WIFR-TV (Rockford, IL), WNEP-TV (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA), WLOS-TV (Asheville/Greenville/Spartanburg, NC-SC), and WRAL-TV (Raleigh/Durham, NC).

At WRAL, he shifted from working in the field to working in house, initially as an assignment editor. He was promoted several times and became News Director in 2005.  He continues to serve in that position and is responsible for running the news department and disseminating news content across numerous platforms (TV stations, radio stations, websites, mobile devices, and social media).

WRAL-TV is recognized in the industry as a technology and news leader. The station has long won the local news ratings, and its website has been ranked among the top local news sites in the country on a per capita visitor basis.  Since becoming News Director, Rick has won an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award and nine regional Emmy Awards, including three for News Excellence. He was nominated for a National Emmy.  Rick was named News Director of the Year by the RTDNAC in 2011. Under his leadership, the station has received numerous awards, including three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Overall Excellence, nine AP (NC) Awards for Outstanding News Operation, and three national Gabriel awards for Secular Television Station of the Year. 

Rick is currently on the board of the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. He served two years as board president.  Rick is now serving as board president of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition.

Married in 1993, Rick lives with his wife, Pam, in the Raleigh area.‚Äč
