2017 workshop

Once again, news managers and educators from across the Carolinas will gather in Charlotte to share their knowledge and network with student journalists.

The RTDNAC Student Workshop will take place at the WBTV Studios at 1 Julian Place on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The registration desk will open at 8:30 that morning. (In case of inclement weather, the workshop will be held on Feb. 18.)

There is no fee for the workshop, but space is limited. Please register online by Thursday, Feb. 9

The free workshop is open to students at universities and colleges in North and South Carolina.

Industry professionals will speak with students on various topics, including how to find that first job, a proper broadcast voice, visual storytelling, reporting and anchoring. The professionals will also offer quality advice on how to get your career started off on the right foot.

This year's workshop will have the following sessions conducted by broadcast professionals from the Carolinas:

  • The Broadcast Voice

  • Reporting/anchoring

  • Producing TV newscasts

  • Production

  • News marketing

  • Weathercasting

  • Sportscasting

  • Radio news

  • Photography

  • Online news and social media

  • Landing that first job

Students may have samples of their work, which must be accessible online, critiqued by professionals.
